Press Conference at UN Climate Conference SB64
Militarized Landscapes: Environmental Destruction and the Gendered Cost of War
Press Conference at the UN Climate Change Conference (SB64)
Date: 9 June 2026
Time: 10:30–11:00 CEST
Location: UN Climate Change Conference (SB64), Bonn, Germany
As governments meet in Bonn for the UN Climate Change Conference (SB64), Peace Boat will host a press conference examining the links between war, militarization, environmental destruction, displacement, and climate injustice.
At a time of escalating wars, military assaults, occupations, and worsening climate impacts, the environmental consequences of conflict remain largely absent from climate discussions. Yet war and militarization destroy ecosystems, contaminate land and water, drive displacement, generate significant greenhouse gas emissions, and undermine communities' ability to respond to climate change.
Bringing together perspectives from Lebanon, Ukraine, and international climate justice movements, the press conference will explore why the impacts of conflict and militarization must be part of conversations on climate justice, resilience, and environmental protection.
