Ocean Literacy for All: participation in UNESCO workshop
Peace Boat attended a workshop organised by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) in Venice on December 12-13, 2019 on the theme Ocean Literacy for All: A strategy for the conservation, restoration and sustainable use of our ocean.
The event was the first kick off-event for the preparatory process in 2020, which will lead to launch of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development 2021-2030.
The Ocean Literacy initiative is planned to play a key role in the implementation of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development 2021-2030 in the fields of education, scientific contribution and action to preserve our oceans. UNESCO is currently leading preparations for the decade, under the theme of "The Science We Need For The Ocean We Want."
Peace Boat presented its work as part of a pitch session, emphasizing our contribution to clean oceans campaigns and sustainable development, particularly in the fields of awareness raising, volunteerism, capacity building, communication and partnership development. Peace Boat’s Ecoship was also introduced to participants of the UNESCO workshop.
Peace Boat plans to be active in various initiatives for Ocean Literacy, and is a partner in the upcoming UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development 2021-2030.
