Peace Boat in Cape Town: Blue Innovation Day and Strategic Dialogue on the Africa-Europe Ocean Economy

Peace Boat’s ship, the MV Pacific World will be visiting Cape Town on February, 27 as part of Peace Boat’s 116th Global Voyage. We are delighted to be holding the Blue Ocean and Innovation Day featuring the Strategic Dialogue on the Africa-Europe Ocean Economy onboard while the ship in Cape Town together with the Africa-Europe Foundation (AEF), OceanHub Africa and Captain Fanplastic.
Oceans have been described as the quintessential sustainable development issue, as they sustain the global economy and are a critical resource, fundamental to human survival. Africa’s ocean economy offers massive opportunities for socio-economic upliftment. This transformation requires alignment at the speed and scale of the continent's environmental and developmental needs.
This onboard event will connect young leaders, practitioners and policymakers for knowledge exchange and partnership-building, providing a platform to reinforce ocean governance and blue economy as a central pillar of cross-continental and international cooperation.
From 14:00, there will be presentations on blue innovation, a workshop and film screening together with Peace Boat US, Captain Fanplastic and ocean leaders. Peace Boat US will introduce its “Youth for the SDGs” scholarship programme for the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development, endorsed by IOC UNESCO as an official Contribution to the UN Ocean Decade through education.
From 16:30, The Strategic Dialogue on Africa-Europe Ocean Economy will feature a panel discussion ‘Opportunities, Challenges and Innovative Practices working at the nexus of climate, development and ocean’ and presentations of youth-led action on Ocean and Blue Economy. Due to regulations at the port, all visitors must register by February 22 to ensure admission to the port and the ship. Please bring the ID document which you used to register with you to the event. It will be checked on admission to the port and ship.
