Regarding the tragic attacks in Sri Lanka

Apr 22, 2019

Peace Boat is deeply shocked and saddened to learn of the tragic bombings which took place in several locations including churches and hotels in Sri Lanka on April 21, Easter Sunday. Our thoughts are with all those affected, and with all the people of Sri Lanka. Peace Boat is honoured to cooperate with many partners in Sri Lanka working towards peace, healing, and reconciliation, and we stand together with them at this time.

The 101st Global Voyage for Peace, which departed from Japan on April 21, was scheduled to visit the port of Colombo, Sri Lanka. With the safety of our participants, staff, and crew in mind, we are now confirming information regarding the local situation and considering changing the itinerary to an alternative port.

Update April 24

Following the explosions which recently occurred in Colombo, Sri Lanka, the Captain of the Ocean Dream has determined that it will not be possible to sufficiently ensure safety in the local area. Therefore, it has been decided to cancel the call to the port of Colombo, Sri Lanka and instead to call to Penang, Malaysia.

The scheduled times for Penang, Malaysia are as follows:

May 2

07:00 Estimated time of arrival
21:00 Estimated time of departure

We express our deepest condolences to all those who have been affected by this tragedy, and sincerely hope for a rapid recovery for all those who have been injured.
