Humanitarian Relief for Gaza: Providing Much Needed Fresh Food for Families
Over 90 percent of the population of Gaza are facing acute food insecurity according to the United Nations World Food Programme, and humanitarian conditions are critical.
Beginning in August 2024, Peace Boat volunteers raised funds both in Japan and onboard our global voyages to support the supply of fresh vegetables to people living in unacceptably inhumane conditions in Gaza, both lacking the very basic amount of food to survive and being under constant attack.
More about the launch of the campaign can be read here.
Peace Boat’s support has enabled 300 packages containing several kilograms of fresh vegetables each to be delivered in December 2024 to families in and near to Gaza’s Khan Younis, through the local NGO “Youth Without Borders” and the support of our long-term partner based in Jerusalem, Palestinian Vision.
Youth Without Borders is an NGO founded by Palestinian youth in 2002 and based in Khan Younis in the southern part of Gaza. Since its establishment, Youth Without Borders has been working with various international NGOs and European governments on projects to provide vocational training, capacity development and social participation to young people.
Each set of vegetables is equivalent to supporting five people for around four to five days, and contained various daily staples such as potatoes, eggplants, and tomatoes.
Peace Boat will continue to make efforts to provide humanitarian support for people in inhumane conditions in Gaza, as well as to speak out and appeal for a ceasefire and an end to violations of international humanitarian law as soon as possible.
