The Mazekoze Island Tour: Celebrating Diversity and Inclusivity
Renowned Japanese actor Azuma Chizuru, who has joined Peace Boat numerous times as a Guest Educator, has created the "MAZEKOZE Island Tour" as a leading feature of the Tokyo 2020 Nippon Festival, the official cultural programme of the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games. Ms Azuma (below, right) describes it as the culmination of her 29 year career as an activist and in Japan's entertainment industry.
With the theme of "Diversity and Harmony", the 90-minute film visualises "coexistence and diversity". Through the incredible performances of artists of different genders, sexual orientations, ages, nationalities and physical abilities, viewers are taken on a journey to nine fictitious "islands" to experience the richness and comfort of the diversity around us. The show premiered online in a free screening on August 22, and is now available for viewing on YouTube until the end of September, with English subtitles available.
Many Peace Boat staff members and volunteers were also honoured to be involved in this project, both behind the scenes and on camera.
