Stop Killing Gaza! Press Conference on the Return of Peace Boat Voyage 115
Peace Boat will return to the Port of Yokohama on December 6 at 14:00 with a huge banner stating “Stop Killing Gaza” displayed on the 77,000-ton passenger ship Pacific World. Voyage participants have in addition painted 15,000 teardrops on the banner, representing the number of lives lost in this recent violence. Together with the Ambassador of Palestine and numerous other representatives of the Diplomatic Corps in Tokyo, we will call for a permanent ceasefire.
During its 115th Global Voyage for Peace, which departed Japan in August and will return in December after visiting 24 ports around the world, Peace Boat hoisted a huge banner (30m x 5m) on the ship and made an appeal for an immediate ceasefire in several ports of call: Piraeus (Greece) on November 3, Istanbul (Turkey) on November 5th, and Port Said (Egypt) on November 8th and 9th.
Actions for peaceful coexistence
Peace Boat has visited Palestine and Israel since the 1990s. While providing medical relief goods and stationery to Palestinian refugee camps, we have also invited young people from both countries on board our passenger ship to engage them in dialogue and exchange for peaceful coexistence over the years. We have also provided assistance to a Palestinian family affected by the Israeli airstrikes on Gaza in 2019 to help them rebuild their homes.
At the press conference, we will report on the banner actions conducted at ports of call in the vicinity of Gaza, including Egypt. H.E. Mr Waleed Siam, Ambassador of Palestine, who has been requesting the Japanese government to advocate for an immediate ceasefire, and many other members of the Diplomatic Corps in Tokyo will be present at the press conference.
Photo opportunities will include the Peace Boat passenger ship with the banner in the background. Please join us to help stop the tragedy in Gaza as soon as possible!
