Call for Donations: Emergency Relief for Communities Affected by Wildfires in Maui County, Hawai’i.
On August 8, 2023, the first fire was confirmed in Maui Island, Hawaii. The fires spread quickly and burnt the communities for days, resulting in damage to more than 2000 buildings in the western area of the island. According to media reports, most burnt structures were residential.
Peace Boat Disaster Relief (PBV) has launched an emergency relief fund to support the affected communities. This fund will be utilized to support local partner organizations delivering emergency assistance to communities. PBV also dispatched three staff members to the impacted area on August 20, to deliver emergency support and plan for longer relief projects in collaboration with local groups. While on Maui, the PBV team joined World Central Kitchen to support distribution of meals to residents affected by the fires in Lahaina. Funds from individual donors to PBV supported over 700 meals distributed by WCK.
We will continue our efforts to provide assistance to the communities in Maui. More updates will be shared on the PBV Facebook, LinkedIn, and websites. We seek your generous contributions to help us support those in need - donate now through credit card payments, money transfer, Benevity platform, or Yahoo! Japan internet donations. Thank you very much.
