Stop Killing Gaza! Peace Boat to display huge banner

Nov 1, 2023
  • Peace Boat will hoist a 30m x 5m "Stop Killing Gaza" banner on its ship

  • The banner will be displayed during Peace Boat's calls to Piraeus (Nov 3), Istanbul (Nov 5) and Port Said (Nov 8-9)

  • Peace Boat's vessel "Pacific World" is a 77,000 ton passenger ship, carrying 1800 people onboard

During Peace Boat's 115th round-the-world cruise, a large banner will be hoisted on the Pacific World (77,000 tons, carrying 1,800 passengers) to appeal for peace in Gaza when the ship calls at Piraeus, Greece on November 3, Istanbul, Turkey on November 5, and Port Said, Egypt on November 8 and 9.

Peace Boat strongly condemns the killing of civilians and holding of hostages by Hamas. We call for the immediate release of the hostages. However, the virtually indiscriminate bombardment of Gaza including hospitals, schools and residential buildings, and the restriction on water, food, fuel and aid is in clear violation of international humanitarian law. We strongly appeal to the world for an immediate ceasefire and the immediate supply of services and humanitarian aid to Gaza.

Background: Peace Boat is a Japan-based NGO which travels the world on educational voyages to promote peace and sustainability. Since the 1990s, Peace Boat has visited Palestine and Israel, including Gaza, to carry out educational exchange programs, as well as to invite young people from both countries on board to engage in dialogue for peaceful coexistence.
