Peace Boat at the Eleventh NPT Review Conference
Peace Boat, alongside our sister organization Peace Boat US, is currently on the ground at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City for the Eleventh Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), taking place from April 27 to May 22, 2026.
Participating as a member of civil society and leveraging our ECOSOC Special Consultative Status, Peace Boat is spending the opening week observing the General Debate to monitor how various states address the state of nuclear non-proliferation and disarmament during this difficult global period. As an International Steering Group (ISG) organization of the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN), we are also actively liaising with a wide network of civil society partners to ensure a unified and powerful message for abolition.
Amplifying the Voices of the Hibakusha
A central pillar of our work at this conference is ensuring that the lived experiences of atomic bomb survivors remain at the forefront of diplomatic discussions. We are proud to support the Nihon Hidankyo (Japan Confederation of A- and H-bomb Sufferers) in their A-Bomb Exhibition, which opened in the United Nations lobby on April 27. This exhibit tells the stories of the Hibakusha through testimonials based on first-hand experiences, along with data and statistics related to nuclear warfare, to exemplify the 80-plus year effort of the survivors and the United Nations to achieve a world without nuclear weapons.
Beyond the exhibition, Peace Boat is assisting Nihon Hidankyo in coordinating critical meetings with Nuclear Weapon States.

Advancing Regional Perspectives in Northeast Asia
In the lead-up to the conference, Peace Boat collaborated with the Global Partnership for the Prevention of Armed Conflict (GPPAC) Northeast Asia, the Japan Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons, and the Asia-Pacific Leadership Network (APLN) to co-convene a closed webinar. This session focused on practical steps for regional cooperation to reduce nuclear threats, and we are pleased to announce that the resulting briefing paper,

Empowering the Next Generation
Peace Boat US is proud to co-sponsor dedicated side events designed to bring younger generations into the policy space. On April 25, we participated in the 2026 International Youth Nuclear Disarmament Summit, where global youth advocates joined together to craft a peace declaration on the eve of the Review Conference.
Furthermore, on April 29, we are co-sponsoring a Side Event titled “Revitalizing Nuclear Disarmament and Non-Proliferation Education,” which brings together policymakers and experts to discuss practical ways to build inclusive, cross-regional networks. Register for the event here.
These initiatives reflect our firm belief that people of all ages and backgrounds must be empowered to take meaningful action against the causes of global insecurity.
