World Heritage Through the Lens of Ma Chi Kang
With a desire to convey the value of a rich travel life through different media, world heritage tourism lecturer Ma Chi Kang calls himself a tourism-focused activist. In recent years, he has focused on world heritage promotion and education, and his work covers tour guiding, lectures, writing, and radio and television programs. He has visited 55 countries in Europe, Asia and Africa, and is the author of numerous books.
As the 117th voyage left Africa en route to Europe, spurring participants' excitement about upcoming ports of call, Ma Chi Kang gave lectures on history and world heritage sites related to Spain, Portugal, and the Roman Empire. His lectures included examples of Portuguese influences along Portugal's Asia-bound eastern route during the so-called Age of Exploration, and provided a historical overview of the changing architecture of churches in western Europe. In a joint session, he and Tan Huaiyu, another guest educator, shared and compared different travel experiences and anecdotes.
Drawing from his broad experience, from lecturing at universities to serving as a judge for the Taiwan TV Golden Bell Award and the Book Golden Tripod Award, and a great storyteller in both English and Chinese, Ma Chi Kang captivated his audience from start to finish.
