Peace Boat Joins Global Week of Action for Peace and Climate Justice 2025
From September 15–21, 2025, Peace Boat joined organizations and movements around the world for the second annual Global Week of Action for Peace and Climate Justice, a global mobilization highlighting the connections between war, militarism, climate breakdown, and social injustice.
Peace Boat was proud to serve on the organizing committee for the Week of Action, which brought together peace, climate, feminist, labor, and social justice movements under the shared call to "Divest from War – Invest in the Just Transition." The week formed part of a wider global mobilization demanding systemic change and calling on governments to redirect resources away from militarization and towards peacebuilding, climate action, and social wellbeing.
During the Week of Action, participants onboard Peace Boat took part in a series of educational and participatory activities exploring the links between militarism and the climate crisis. A lecture examined how military spending, military emissions, and armed conflict contribute to environmental degradation and divert resources away from urgently needed climate solutions. Participants also joined a workshop and group discussion to reflect on the concept of a just transition and the role of demilitarisation in achieving a more sustainable and equitable future.

Creative activities throughout the week encouraged participants to engage with these issues in new ways. Participants worked together to create banners and visual messages calling for peace and climate justice before gathering on the ship's top deck for a photo action in solidarity with events taking place around the world. Through these activities, participants connected with a growing international movement calling for an end to both genocide and ecocide and advocating for policies that prioritise people and the planet over war and militarization.
The Week of Action concluded on September 21, the International Day of Peace. Established by the United Nations as a day dedicated to strengthening the ideals of peace through dialogue and cooperation, the occasion provided an opportunity to reflect on the urgent need for peace in a world facing escalating conflict, rising military spending, and worsening climate impacts.

As a member of the organizing committee and through activities onboard its global voyage, Peace Boat contributed to raising awareness of the links between peace, disarmament, and climate justice. The week demonstrated the growing recognition that climate action and peacebuilding are deeply interconnected, and that achieving a just and sustainable future requires addressing the root causes of both conflict and environmental destruction.
