On December 26, the day after Christmas, hundreds of people gathered in Yokohama to say goodbye to the 100th Peace Boat Global Voyage for Peace, a very special journey for the organization that this year celebrates its 35th anniversary. This voyage will last for almost 100 days and cover a southern hemisphere route, docking in 19 ports around Asia, Africa, and South America. It will return to Japan on March 31, 2019, after visiting 13 countries.

The "Global Voyage for a Nuclear-Free World: Peace Boat Hibakusha Project" aims to spread awareness of nuclear issues and promote the abolition of nuclear weapons. Since 2008, Peace Boat has invited over 170 Hibakusha (survivors of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki) onboard to deliver their powerful testimonies around the world. Two Hibakusha, Ms Tsukamoto Michiko and Ms Sora Tamiko, joined Peace Boat's 99th Global Voyage.

During a side event at UN Climate Change 24th Conference of Parties (COP24), in Katowice (Poland), Peace Boat announced the third edition of its Ocean and Climate Youth Ambassadors Programme. Peace Boat will invite a group of young people from the Pacific Ocean, the Indian Ocean and the Caribbean to travel from Valletta (Malta) to New York (United States) with stops and activities in Motril (Spain), Tangier (Morocco) and Ponta Delgada (Portugal). The programme will take place from May 24 to June 8, 2019, during the 101st Peace Boat Global Voyage.

Peace Boat, the world's largest passenger ship sailing around the world for peace and sustainability, visited New York City on October 29-30 as part of the 99th Global Voyage for Peace. As a committed campaigner for the Sustainable Development Goals, sailing with the SDGs logo on our hull, a range of events in relation to the SDGs were held during these two days.
