The Global Partnership for the Prevention of Armed Conflict (GPPAC) Northeast Asia Regional Meeting and fifth Ulaanbaatar Process meeting was convened in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia between August 22-24, 2019.

On August 21, Peace Boat’s passenger ship the Ocean Dream called to the port of Ishinomaki for the first time in six years. The visit was part of Peace Boat’s East Asia Voyage 2019.

The ship was warmly welcomed by local people with fishing boat flags and Kurofune taiko drums from Date, Ogatsu-cho, as it entered the industrial port of Ishinomaki.

Activists battling climate change, a former child soldier and health workers pioneering new treatments around the world are among thousands of participants who will gather in Salt Lake City, Utah, US, from 26 to 28 August at the sixty-eighth annual United Nations Civil Society Conference for a global conversation on building inclusive and sustainable cities and communities. A Peace Boat delegation will travel to Salt Lake City to introduce our educational programmes for SDG education, carried out on board our ship.

Peace Boat and the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA) invite you to join us for a special event, coinciding with the UN General Assembly - First Committee on Disarmament, Peace and Security, with approximately 75 young people from the ages 18–30 who will participate in activities promoting peace and disarmament in relationship to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The event will take place at UN Headquarters and onboard Peace Boat on Friday, October 11, 2019. 

Peace Boat is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of our long-time friend and partner, Kolwane Mantu of the African Youth Ensemble.

Due to the typhoons no.8 (Francisco) and no.9 (Lekima) currently approaching Japan, Peace Boat's open ship planned to take place in Hiroshima on August 6 (Tuesday) has regretfully been cancelled.

Peace Boat’s East Asia Voyage 2019 set sail on August 4. One of the special projects to take place during this voyage is Peace Boat’s Global University.

During Peace Boat’s visit to Cairns, we partnered with local organisation Smile With Kids to celebrate Peace Boat’s arrival in port, and also show support for newly arrived children from Fukushima.

The Ocean Dream welcomed guest educator and International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN) Ambassador Scott Ludlam onboard from Lautoka, Fiji to Cairns, Australia.

As Peace Boat’s 101st Global Voyage docked in Lautoka, Fiji on July 13, 2019, a group of participants joined a study and exchange programme on climate and environment related issues with local youth.

Participants on the 101st Global Voyage have many opportunities to acquire knowledge on issues related to climate change and its impacts around the world. In collaboration with The Climate Reality Project, two guest educators who empower people to play a role against climate change joined the voyage as it sailed between Lautoka, Fiji and Brisbane, Australia.
