Coinciding with the youth-led Global Climate Strikes taking place this September, Peace Boat has published the report of the third edition of the Ocean and Climate Youth Ambassadors Programme. Peace Boat invites youth from small islands on the frontline of the climate crisis to travel onboard its ship to raise awareness of the impacts of climate change and ocean degradation. Peace Boat has also made a 360 video about the programme.

Guest Educators 102nd Global Voyage
On September 2, the 102nd Global Voyage departed from Yokohoma. This voyage will visit 23 destinations and will return to Japan on December 12. During every Peace Boat voyage, a wide range of guests from all over the world join the participants onboard, including university professors, photographers, journalists, civil society representatives and artists.

The Asia-Pacific Climate Week (APCW) in Bangkok, Thailand, wrapped up on September 6, with participants agreeing on a set of key takeaways on what steps urgently need to be taken for the region to be able to profit from the advantages of the transition to low carbon and to be able to build resilience to the worst impacts of climate change. Global University 2019 ends in Kobe
On August 23, Peace Boat’s East Asia Voyage 2019 returned to Kobe. Amongst the over 1,000 passengers were 35 students and young professionals from China, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and the United States who took part in Peace Boat’s Global University during their journey. For 21 days, the Global University participants engaged in a rigorous programme, designed around the overall theme of “Building Peaceful and Inclusive Societies Together in Asia.”

Peace Boat visits Ishinomaki, Miyagi Prefecture
On August 21, Peace Boat’s passenger ship the Ocean Dream called to the port of Ishinomaki for the first time in six years. The visit was part of Peace Boat’s East Asia Voyage 2019.
The ship was warmly welcomed by local people with fishing boat flags and Kurofune taiko drums from Date, Ogatsu-cho, as it entered the industrial port of Ishinomaki.
