On May 31, Peace Boat’s Ocean and Climate Youth Ambassadors arrived to Ponta Delgada, in the Azores Archipelago, onboard the 101st Global Voyage. During the day, the group were hosted by professors from the University of the Azores from whom they learnt about the many challenges that this group of nine islands in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean are facing in relation to climate change.

The group travelled to Granada to take part in an event "IV Encuentro Voluntariado Comunidad Universitaria y Asociaciones Solidarias" that took place in the Sala Triunfo of the Hospital Real at the University of Granada.

During the Mediterranean segment of Peace Boat’s 101st voyage, the Berghof Foundation Tübingen held its annual meeting onboard as the ship travelled between the ports of Piraeus and Valletta. The Berghof Foundation supports efforts to prevent political and social violence and to achieve sustainable peace through conflict transformation, based on education and training on non-violent conflict resolutions.

For the third year in a row after its launch in 2017, Peace Boat has invited youth from small islands on the frontline of the climate crisis to travel onboard its ship to raise awareness of the impacts of climate change and ocean degradation. The Ocean and Climate Youth Ambassador Programme will begin in Malta on May 24. The programme will conclude in New York City on World Oceans Day.

Peace Boat partnered for the first time with the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups (HKFYG) Leadership Institute to host The HKFYG Jockey Club School of Global Leadership - Global Seminar 2019. The seven-day Global Seminar took place from April 19th to April 25th, 2019, with two days of fieldwork in Osaka, in-depth seminars and workshops centered around the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) held on board Peace Boat, and a closing session held in Hong Kong. The theme of the seminar was “Leadership for Inclusive Futures in Asia” with 23 young trisector professionals participating from seven different countries and regions.

Peace Boat wins the Educators’ Challenge Awards

Peace Boat's Ocean and Climate Youth Ambassadors Programme is one of the winners of the first edition of the Educators’ Challenge Awards. The award, given by the Global Challenges Foundation, recognizes innovative methods of engaging young people and the general public around global risks such as climate change, nuclear weapons, and pandemics. It was announced in a ceremony at the London School of Economics in London on May 15.
