PRESS CONFERENCE : 20 July, 2012 (Friday) 13:30-14:30

More than 100,000 people joined the Global Conference for a Nuclear Power Free World in Yokohama, Japan on 14-15 January 2012, and since then the movement for alternatives to nuclear power has been growing stronger and stronger in Japan. Just this week, over 170,000 people joined the "100,000 People's Assembly to say Goodbye to Nuclear Power Plants" assembly in Tokyo, surpassing organizer's expectations.

To spread this message of the citizens domestically and internationally, while fostering the connections and relationships made through this movement, Peace Boat will conduct the "Peace & Green Boat: Voyage for a Nuclear Free East Asia" together with the Korean NPO, Green Foundation.

400 participants from both Japan and Korea will visit the Kori nuclear power plant in Korea, the Tsuruga/Wakasa region of Japan known as the ''Atomic Arcade'' or ''Genpatsu Ginza" (nuclear power plant Ginza), and from Hakata, Japan, the Genkai nuclear power plant in Saga prefecture. Through these voyages, dialogue and connections between the electricity-consuming major cities and nuclear-power producing local communities will be pursued, to together aim for a nuclear power free society.
