Peace Boat's 72nd Global Peace Voyage sailed from Yokohama on January 23, 2011 and returned on April 18, 2011. Travelling eastward around the globe, this voyage featured the fourth edition of the "Global Voyage for a Nuclear-Free World – Peace Boat Hibakusha Project." The delegation of survivors of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, who have been officially appointed by the Japanese Government as "Special Communicators for a Nuclear-Free World," were joined on part of the voyage by Tahitians affected by French nuclear testing and Australian indigenous people victimised by uranium mining. Considering the affects of the nuclear cycle on the environment, the voyage also focused on biodiversity, particularly learning about the marine environment visited throughout the journey.
