Peace Boat's 70th Global Voyage departed from Japan on August 2, 2010 to visit 20 ports in 18 countries around the world, through Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe, and Latin America. This voyage featured Peace Boat's first visit to Nicaragua since its first global voyage in 1990, where a peace festival and a range of exchange and study programmes were organized, and medical relief goods delivered. Another highlight of the voyage was the first-ever "Global School" onboard Peace Boat, where Japanese youth experiencing social difficulties including hikikomori participate in workshops on communication and other social skills, learning to celebrate diversity as seen throughout their global voyage. The voyage returned to Japan on October 20, 2010.
