Voyage Itinerary
Peace Boat`s 66th Global Voyage for Peace, departing on April 23 2009, will travel through Asia and the Indian Ocean, before heading through Northern Europe and returning to Japan on August 6 via Central and Northern America.

This voyage will feature Peace Boat's first extensive visit to Scandinavia, including the first time ports of Stockholm and Helsinki. Sustainability will be the keyword of this voyage, with on board and in port programmes focusing on various related themes.

Learning about northern European welfare and education systems will provide an opportunity to reconsider the true meaning of a “rich” society – going beyond economic wealth and efficiency, and instead focusing on the wellbeing of humans and the environment alike. Examples of natural conservation and environmentally-friendly economic policies around the world will be explored, as participants on this journey reconsider how to make our lifestyles and policies truly sustainable.

Learning About the Diverse Society of the United States
The Manhattan skyline as viewed from Peace Boat as it approached New York Harbour. Peace Boat spent a total of three days in New York, learning about the various components of US society.
Crossing the Atlantic en route to New York, the focus of Peace Boat onboard programmes was shifted from environment and sustainability towards United States policies and the contemporary issues that are taking place in this changing country. The recent change in the US administration for many ended an era of conservative rule and signified the beginning of a change towards progressive policies, with high expectations that they will result in improved international relations abroad and a better social system within. Representing this change is the new President, and significantly the first ever non-Caucasian President of the US, Barrack Obama. >>READ MORE
