2014 Nobel Peace Prize Announcement Live Public Viewing in Tokyo!, 10 October 2014
Date: 10 October 2014
Location: Peace Boat Center Tokyo

On Friday October 10, the Nobel Peace Committee will announce the Laureate of the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize. Among the contenders, the Japanese people who conserve Article 9, the peace clause in Japan's constitution, have been nominated.

Article 9 of the Japanese Constitution renounces war and the threat or use of force as a means of settling international disputes. Further, it prohibits the maintenance of armed forces and other war potential. Article 9 is an international oath declaring No to War, a shared property of all the world's citizens who wish for peace.

The fact that Article 9 was nominated has sent a strong signal to the people of Japan, encouraging them to remain mobilized to preserve their peace clause and to demand their government to realize and strengthen the country's peace commitments, rather than weaken them, as is currently threatened under the Abe government.

Peace Boat, as the Secretariat of the Global Article 9 Campaign, will hold a Public Viewing in Tokyo, featuring a live broadcast of the announcement from Oslo, together with speeches and appeals by youth and well-known Japanese figures.

Join us to watch this moment in history!
