Aug 21, 2015 - PRESS RELEASE: Peace Boat & World YMCA Set Sail; Journey through the Straits of Hormuz against new Security Bills
Peace Boat will set sail from Japan on August 21, travelling through the Straits of Hormuz, the site of controversy over the proposed security bills in Japan. The initial segment of the voyage will also be joined by more than 150 youth "change agents" from 60 countries around the world, in collaboration with the World Alliance of YMCAs.

On August 21, 2015 (Fri), Peace Boat's 88th Global Voyage will set sail from the port Yokohama. As it travels between Mumbai (India) and Dubai (UAE) in September, it will travel through the Straits of Hormuz. This will be an opportunity for approximately 1000 Japanese to witness first hand the area which has been the point of argument in the Japanese Diet in relation to the security bills the Abe administration is currently attempting to force through.

Over 150 youth from 60 countries will join this voyage through collaboration with Nobel Peace Laureate organization, the World Alliance of YMCAs (World YMCA). These youth "change agents" will participate in a capacity building programme to foster young leaders to contribute to peacebuilding in their communities around the world. A delegation of 10 youth from the Tehran Peace Museum in Iran will also join the voyage during the Mediterranean segment.

The National Council of YMCAs of Japan, a member of World YMCA, has also called for withdrawal of the proposed security bills, and their position will be expressed at this press conference, together with Peace Boat. Also speaking will be Izutsu Takao, a former Ground SDF ranger who opposes the security bills based on his experience, and Kawasaki Akira, disarmament and security specialist.
