Aug 17, 2012 - PRESS RELEASE: Delivering the Voices of Fukushima to the World
Delivering the Voices of Fukushima to the World - Fukushima Citizens Give Testimony on Peace Boat's Global Voyage. Delegates Meet President Daniel Ortega in Nicaragua -

The 76th Peace Boat Global Voyage for Peace returns to Yokohama on 17 August with over 1000 participants onboard the newly chartered vessel Ocean Dream.

During this Global Voyage, 4 citizens from Fukushima prefecture, who have been deeply affected by the Fukushima nuclear accident gave their testimonies in countries such as Norway, Sweden, Venezuela and Nicaragua, while visiting 22 countries in 102 days. Particularly in these Latin American countries, which have been greatly supporting the Tohoku region since 11 March, the Fukushima residents were welcomed with strong stances against nuclear power. During the welcoming ceremony in Nicaragua, President Daniel Ortega gave a statement to create a nuclear power free country. Nicaragua is the first country in the world to secure the complete participation of all its local governments in the international initiative "Mayors for Peace."

In addition, 7 youths from the Fukushima Youth Orchestra joined the "El Sistema" Venezuela Music Youth Ambassadors onboard the ship from Mexico, after a cultural and music exchange in Los Angeles. The group will return to Japan with the ship on 17 August, and perform at a joint concert the following day. Please see the below websites for more information:
