Mar 9, 2011 - Peace Boat's 73rd Voyage Collecting Donations for Flood Victims and Children
Peace Boat is seeking donations of musical instruments and items for flood victims in Venezuela
Peace Boat's 73rd Global Voyage for Peace will depart from Yokohama on April 24th, 2011, carrying with it not only hundreds of enthusiastic participants, but also disaster relief and aid items for various countries that the ship will visit during the trip. Peace Boat's United People's Alliance (UPA) Project is currently collecting items needed for Venezuela and Morocco, and welcomes donations.

In November of 2010, Venezuela experienced prolonged heavy rains that resulted in floods and landslides that left more than 1,500 households without homes. Today, many people continue to live in temporary shelters and will likely remain without homes to return to for an extended period. As a result, some items needed to help support the victims are running in short supply.

Peace Boat staff members recently visited Venezuela and witnessed firsthand the lingering difficulties people in the country are experiencing. After receiving a formal request for disaster relief items from the Venezuelan Embassy in Japan, Peace Boat recently launched a campaign to collect items that can be delivered to Venezuela by ship during Peace Boat's 73rd Global Voyage. Needed items include:

-Non-perishable instant food items and powdered milk
-Baby carriages, diapers, and children's clothes (summer only)
-Soap and Shampoo
-Towels, blankets and sheets
-Medical items: thermometers, blood pressure cuffs, disposable gloves, cotton, rubbing alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, and stretchers adaptable for ambulances.

In addition to this campaign, Peace Boat is also collecting violins and other musical instruments to donate to the State Foundation for the National System of Youth and Children's Orchestras of Venezuela (FESNOJIV), a program that has successfully given tens of thousands of disadvantaged young people the opportunity to learn music.

Philippe Troussier, Peace Ball's Goodwill Ambassador, is helping to collect donated footballs for Morocco
During the 73rd Voyage, Peace Boat also aims deliver donated footballs (soccer balls) to needy young people in Morocco as part of a Peace Ball project it is carrying out with the cooperation of renowned football manager Philippe Troussier.

Those interested in collecting or donating any of the items needed above can contact Peace Boat at pbglobal @ peaceboat.gr.jp. Footballs can be sent or delivered to Peace Boat's center in Tokyo until March 31, 2011 and items for Venezuela until April 8th. Donations to help cover the storage cost of the items are also highly appreciated.

For more than 15 years, Peace Boat has sucessfully participated in numerous disaster relief efforts, and organized campaigns to collect needed items worldwide.
