Oct 15, 2017 - Peace Boat Arrives in New York City!


The world's largest passenger ship sailing around the world for peace and sustainability will visit New York City on October 15-16, as part of Peace Boat's 95th Global Voyage for Peace. Over the two days this weekend, activities will be held including an onboard Floating Festival for Sustainability, events at the United Nations and exchange programs with local New York City community groups.

Established in 1983, the award-winning international non-profit organization Peace Boat has Special Consultative Status with UN ECOSOC. Dedicated to working for peace and sustainability, Peace Boat is a member of the International Steering Group of the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN), 2017 Nobel Peace Laureate.

Peace Boat is also a committed campaigner for the UN SDGs, and travels around the world with the Global Goals logo on the hull of its ship. As part of this campaign, Peace Boat is dedicated to building the world's greenest cruise ship. The Ecoship will be a transformational program that will reduce CO2 by 40% while providing a platform for Peace Boat's round-the-world educational voyages and encouraging active engagement with the challenges embodied in the SDGs.

Main activities during Peace Boat's visit to New York:

Floating Festival for Sustainability onboard Peace Boat, 6-9pm October 15
Dynamic presentations, music, exhibitions and more focused on the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including: renowned musician DJ Spooky, Director of UNESCO Liaison Office New York Marie Paule Roudil, testimony of Nagasaki atomic bomb survivor Kimura Tokuko, and a celebration with key representatives of the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN), 2017 Nobel Peace Laureate.

- Hibakusha's Testimony and Call, urging all UN member states towards early signature and ratification of the Nuclear Weapons Ban Treaty; UNHQ Conference Room A, 1:15-2:30pm

- Our Ocean, Our Future, SIDS Youth Sailing for Climate Action and Peace: Peace Boat Ocean and Youth Ambassadors share messages for COP23; UNHQ Conference Room A, 10:30am-12:00pm

Please note that registration in advance is strictly required in order to visit the ship or attend onboard events, and that a valid UN pass is required to attend events at the United Nations.
