A few weeks after the start of the 100th Global Voyage, the joint project of Peace Boat and Liter of Light is giving the first results. Since the voyage started, close to 200 participants have taken part in some of the workshops that have been organized onboard to build sustainable lights. On January 18 and 19, the first large delivery of lights took place in southern Madagascar.

Percy Yip tong is a well-known artistic director, producer and cultural activist of the Indian Ocean. After having studied and worked with cultural organisations in Europe, Percy Yip Tong returned to Mauritius where he launched the Koool Kreol record label (1987) and the SAMEMSA Indian Ocean Music festival (2004) to promote artists from the south-west Indian Ocean islands.

On December 26, the day after Christmas, hundreds of people gathered in Yokohama to say goodbye to the 100th Peace Boat Global Voyage for Peace, a very special journey for the organization that this year celebrates its 35th anniversary. This voyage will last for almost 100 days and cover a southern hemisphere route, docking in 19 ports around Asia, Africa, and South America. It will return to Japan on March 31, 2019, after visiting 13 countries.

In the recent Okinawan gubernatorial elections, Governor Denny Tamaki was elected on the anti-new base platform with a huge majority of 80,000 votes.
