Marking the first anniversary of the PyeongChang Winter Olympics which spurred historic diplomacy on the Korean Peninsula, Peace Boat joined 500 people from over 50 countries and 200 civil societies at the PyeongChang Global Peace Forum in February, 2019.

The Global Partnership for the Prevention of Armed Conflict (GPPAC), a global network of civil society peacebuilding organisations, welcomes the historic convening of the Second DPRK-US Summit in Hanoi, Viet Nam on February 27-28.

On February 18-28, 2019, seven young activist-scholars will participate in an experiential study program “Peace Education and the SDGs in South America,” during Peace Boat’s 100th Voyage, sailing from Ushuaia, Argentina to Valparaiso, Chile.

As the 100th Global Voyage docked in Montevideo on February 13, Vice President Lucía Topolansky, also the wife of former President José “Pepe” Mujica, joined Peace Boat participants for a day of action and reflection relating to nuclear abolition and sustainability.

Peace Boat is pleased to announce a 21-day Global University Programme on "Building Peaceful and Inclusive Societies Together in Asia" to be held from August 3 to 23, 2019. The call for applications is now open, with the first deadline on March 31 and the second deadline on April 30

A few weeks after the start of the 100th Global Voyage, the joint project of Peace Boat and Liter of Light is giving the first results. Since the voyage started, close to 200 participants have taken part in some of the workshops that have been organized onboard to build sustainable lights. On January 18 and 19, the first large delivery of lights took place in southern Madagascar.

Percy Yip tong is a well-known artistic director, producer and cultural activist of the Indian Ocean. After having studied and worked with cultural organisations in Europe, Percy Yip Tong returned to Mauritius where he launched the Koool Kreol record label (1987) and the SAMEMSA Indian Ocean Music festival (2004) to promote artists from the south-west Indian Ocean islands.

During the 100th Global Voyage, a series of lectures and workshops took place onboard led by Nadine Ravaud, who works on civil society engagement in the 2030 Agenda at the United Nations Development Programme - UNDP Bangkok Regional Hub. 

World-renowned Kenyan environmental activist Wanjira Mathai joined Peace Boat's 100th Global Voyage, to share the work of the Wangari Maathai Foundation (WMF), named after her mother, the late Professor, and Nobel Peace Laureate.

On December 26, the day after Christmas, hundreds of people gathered in Yokohama to say goodbye to the 100th Peace Boat Global Voyage for Peace, a very special journey for the organization that this year celebrates its 35th anniversary. This voyage will last for almost 100 days and cover a southern hemisphere route, docking in 19 ports around Asia, Africa, and South America. It will return to Japan on March 31, 2019, after visiting 13 countries.

The pouring of sand and soil for the new US military base construction at Henoko, Okinawa has now begun. In the recent Okinawan gubernatorial elections, Governor Denny Tamaki was elected on the anti-new base platform with a huge majority of 80,000 votes. Further, a citizens' referendum is being planned for February 2019.
